How to choose standing desks

Measure your seated and standing working heights, then choose a desktop that fits your room and equipment. Check the complete configuration before comparing prices.

Our shop links earn us nothing today: we have not joined an affiliate programme yet. When that changes, it still will not change which products we recommend. How this will work

01Start with your lowest working height

Measure where your keyboard should sit with your shoulders relaxed and feet supported. A desk that does not go low enough can be a poor fit even if its maximum height is generous.

02Allow space for the whole setup

Mark the desktop footprint on the floor. Include chair movement, monitor depth, doorways and clearance from shelves throughout the travel range.

03Compare complete configurations

A frame-only price excludes the top. Add the chosen desktop, controls, cable tray and delivery to compare complete baskets. Check monitor-arm mounting and desktop construction.

04Treat stability as a separate question

A large load rating does not establish how much a desk moves at standing height. Our figures are maker specifications; we have not measured wobble.

05Plan assembly and future moves

Check package weights, access and assembly instructions before delivery. Keep order details for replacement controls or motors, and leave cables enough slack for the full travel.

06Read the return conditions

Check return shipping, packaging requirements and exclusions for customized tops. Keep packaging until you know the desk fits your space and working height.
