How to choose a stand mixer
Choose for the recipes and batch sizes you make most. Consider bowl capacity, storage weight and the accessories you may want later.
Our shop links earn us nothing today: we have not joined an affiliate programme yet. When that changes, it still will not change which products we recommend. How this will work
01Bowl capacity
Compare bowl size with the maker’s stated quantities for your recipes. A larger bowl helps with larger batches but can be less convenient for small amounts; bowl capacity alone does not establish dough capacity.
02Tilt-head or bowl-lift
Compare access to the bowl and space needed to raise the head or lower the bowl. Check dimensions in use as well as in storage, and use the maker’s dough limits for the exact model.
03Motor
Rated watts are not comparable between brands. Look at the maker's stated dough capacity, and at how the mixer performs with stiff dough in published tests.
04Weight and stability
Compare stability in published kneading tests and consider whether you will lift the mixer out of storage. Weight alone does not establish performance.
05Attachments
Check the included beater, hook, whisk and splash guard for the exact package. If you want pasta rollers, grinders or slicers, confirm hub and model compatibility before buying.
06Speeds
A gentle first speed keeps flour in the bowl.
07Bowl, noise and cord
A stainless bowl with a handle is the practical default. Noise and cord length vary more than most buyers expect.
