How to choose automatic pet feeders
Match the feeder to the food you actually use, then choose local controls or an app. Check portion delivery yourself before relying on a schedule.

Our shop links earn us nothing today: we have not joined an affiliate programme yet. When that changes, it still will not change which products we recommend. How this will work
01Start with food compatibility
Check food type and kibble dimensions against the exact feeder. A dry-food hopper is unsuitable for wet food unless the manufacturer explicitly says otherwise.
02Measure actual portions
Run several supervised dispenses and weigh the food. The same nominal portion can deliver a different weight with another kibble shape or size.
03Choose local or connected controls
A local timer avoids app setup. Connected models can offer remote changes, but check Wi-Fi bands, account requirements and what works without internet.
04Understand power backup
Check battery type, whether batteries are included and which features stop during an outage. Test the stored schedule while you are home and inspect batteries regularly.
05Consider more than one pet
An open bowl does not ensure each pet gets its own ration. Watch for food stealing; these shortlisted models do not provide selective access.
06Plan cleaning and daily checks
Follow the manual for removable washable parts and keep the motor base dry. Check food delivery and your pet daily; arrange human care during an absence.
